Trump said that the United States had given Iran a break for a week

US President Donald Trump claims that Washington has given Iran a “week off” for the funeral of the deceased supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei.

“They desperately want to negotiate, they want a settlement so badly. We gave them a week off for the funeral because we’re good,” he assured a rally in South Dakota.

The US president did not directly say that a week-long break in negotiations had come, but the statement was made against the background of ongoing discussions between Washington and Tehran.

The farewell to former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei began on July 3 with a separate event for foreign guests, political and public figures. The main part of the funeral will be held from July 4 to July 9 in a number of cities in Iran. It will end with the burial of the Ayatollah in his native Mashhad.
