The Estonian Prime Minister said that the main share of government spending goes to defense

Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said that the bulk of government spending goes to the military, but austerity measures will not affect these expenses, according to the ERR broadcasting company.

Earlier, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, Marko Mihkelson, said that the country would have to get used to a life with high military expenditures, because they would persist for a long time.

“Michal stressed that the bulk of the expenses have gone… for defense, and since these costs will not be reduced in the near future, we will have to save in other areas,” the publication says.

According to Michal, quoted by the broadcaster, since the government of Kai Kallas in 2021-2024, government spending has been reduced by about one and a half billion euros, and work on cutting spending will continue next year.
