Venezuela has declared mourning in memory of the earthquake victims

The authorized President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, declared seven days of national mourning from July 1 to July 7 in memory of those who died as a result of the devastating earthquakes on June 24.

“In memory of the victims, I have decided to declare national mourning for a period of seven days, starting at 6 p.m. today,” Rodriguez wrote.

She noted that Venezuela deeply mourns the loss of life caused by the devastating earthquakes, expressed her condolences to the families of the victims, wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and expressed support for the families of the missing and the affected communities.


On June 24, two series of powerful tremors occurred in Venezuela, the magnitude of the first of which, according to the US Geological Survey, was 7.2, and the second was 7.5. According to the latest data from the Venezuelan authorities, the death toll increased to 1943. Hundreds of residential buildings were destroyed, infrastructure and hospitals were damaged, and the country’s main airport was closed.
