The Lithuanian president has warned of the risk of NATO splitting into three parts

NATO may break up if the member countries do not reach the alliance’s target for defense spending, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has said.

“It would be extremely controversial or ambiguous if some countries tried to do more and achieved this goal in the coming years, while others would fluctuate, say, at the level of two percent or 2.5 percent. This will naturally divide the alliance into two or three parts,” he said.

According to the Lithuanian president, this will have a bad effect on the spirit of collective defense in the organization and may become a problem.
