In Cuba, power outages have occurred due to an accident at a substation

Large-scale power outages have occurred in Cuba after an accident at a substation in Havana, the state-owned company Unión Eléctrica reported.

“The accident at the Victoria de Girón substation in the capital at 08.20 caused severe fluctuations in the National Electricity System and an emergency shutdown of the Rente 3 and Felton 1 power units,” she said in a Facebook post.

Unión Eléctrica clarified that the Felton 1 power unit has already been reconnected to the grid. It generates about 50 megawatts of power, gradually increasing the load. ENERGAS power units are also connected to the base generation.

The national energy system continues to operate in conditions of low availability of generating capacities.
According to the company, due to the accident, blackouts occur throughout the country.
