In Germany, forced conscription was allowed to form a brigade in Lithuania

The Bundeswehr lacks about one thousand people to man its military brigade in Lithuania, and therefore forced conscription is possible,  German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said.

He had previously stated in an interview with Spiegel that there was a shortage of military specialists to form a Bundeswehr brigade in Lithuania. It is planned that by the end of 2027, about five thousand German troops will be stationed in Lithuania.

“Eventually, conscription may be required.… I’m talking about a number of less than a thousand (people),” Pistorius said in an interview with Bild newspaper, answering a question about the number of military personnel missing to assemble a brigade in Lithuania.

According to him, the Bundeswehr has so far managed to “easily recruit volunteers.”

“We are having difficulties with the rank and file and (military) specialists,” Pistorius said.
