In Washington, the Independence Day parade was canceled

The U.S. Independence Day day parade was canceled in Washington due to the heat, authorities say.

“The Independence Day parade in downtown Washington has been canceled due to warnings of extreme heat,” the city said.

The event was scheduled to start at 10.30 a.m. local time. Authorities have warned of heat above 43 degrees.

The United States is celebrating the 250th anniversary of its founding, the anniversary of which is traditionally celebrated on July 4, the anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.

A number of celebrations are planned in Washington in the evening. US President Donald Trump will deliver a speech, and then fireworks will be shown.

Earlier, other cities on the east coast canceled daytime events. Philadelphia announced the cancellation of the parade. The city of Middletown, Connecticut, postponed the event to September, and in several other cities in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania, some events were canceled or postponed due to the heat.

In Boston, the organizers postponed the opening of the festivities on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
