Chinese Foreign Ministry threatens US with effective force if Pelosi visits Taiwan

The Chinese authorities will use effective force in the event of a visit by Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. This was announced on Monday by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian.

“If Pelosi visits Taiwan, it will be a gross interference in China’s domestic politics and will lead to very serious consequences,” he stressed at the briefing. “China’s People’s Liberation Army will not sit idly by.”

According to the diplomat, Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan would destabilize the situation in the Taiwan Strait and deal a blow to China-US relations. “China will definitely take strong and effective countermeasures,” Zhao Lijian said.

A delegation led by Pelosi flew to Asia on Sunday to visit Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. The American politician declined to clarify whether she intends to visit Taipei during her tour of the Asia-Pacific region.
