Germany does not currently have available Patriot air defense systems that it could send to Ukraine, German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebestreit told reporters.

“At the moment, Germany does not have systems (Patriot) that we could send (Ukraine). In this regard, we are pleased that the United States is taking such a step,” Hebeshtreit said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Earlier, a senior White House official told reporters that US President Joe Biden would announce a new $2 billion military aid package to Ukraine during Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington on Wednesday, which would include Patriot air defense systems. The White House on Wednesday said that the United States is not looking for a direct confrontation with the Russian Federation and will not send its forces to Ukraine.
