Germany offers India and China the role of mediator in resolving the conflict in Ukraine

The head of the parliamentary faction of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Rolf Mützenich, said that India, China or South Africa could become a mediator in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

The German politician explained that countries whose role would be acceptable to both Kyiv and Moscow could become a mediator in the conflict in Ukraine.

“These may be those who refrained from condemning Russia at a meeting of the UN General Assembly. For example, India, China or South Africa,” Mutzenich suggested.

He clarified that he considers the best UN mediator, but doubts that this option will suit Moscow.

According to the politician, Germany is not suitable for this role.

“From the Russian point of view, we immediately took a too clear position, condemned the war and began to speak in favor of sanctions. This makes us an unacceptable mediator for Russia,” he said.

Earlier it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron, in an interview with the regional press, said that Russia should not be humiliated, since in the future countries will have to cooperate with Moscow. He expressed confidence that Paris should play the role of a mediator in overcoming the crisis through diplomacy.
