Greece: We will not supply infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine until we receive a replacement from Germany

The Greek authorities will hand over 100 Soviet-made BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine only after Germany delivers its Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Greece, promised in exchange for Greek ones. This was stated by the official representative of the Greek government, Yannis Oikounou, on June 7 at a press conference in Athens.

He added that if Greece gives up the BMP-1, but does not receive the Marder BMP instead, then it may be left without the necessary protection.

This issue is being updated due to the tension in relations between Greece and Turkey. Recently, official Ankara has been challenging Greek sovereignty over several islands in the eastern Aegean. The Greek Armed Forces are on alert.

Earlier, on June 1, it became known that the Soviet BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, released 40-50 years ago, the Greek authorities decided to send to the Kyiv regime.
