Switzerland will revoke the refugee status of Ukrainians if the situation in Ukraine normalizes, Lucas Rieder, spokesman for the Swiss Secretariat for Migration, said.

“The protective status S does not need to be extended, it is valid until it is canceled. This is possible only when a serious danger disappears throughout Ukraine. If the government does not cancel the protective status S, then those who need protection, after They will theoretically receive a category B residence permit for 5 years until the situation in Ukraine normalizes,” Rieder said.

According to the spokesman, as of the end of August, in 62,590 cases, Ukrainian citizens were granted refugee status, and in 1941 it was withdrawn. At the same time, Rieder noted that the secretariat for migration expects this year from 80,000 to 85,000 applications for S status. However, if serious problems arise in Ukraine at the beginning of winter, especially with energy supply, the number of applications may increase by the end of the year up to 120 thousand, the press secretary concluded.
