Johnson’s allies say he got a vote of confidence

Allies close to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson say he won a vote of confidence in the Conservative Party vote.

On Monday evening, a vote of confidence in the British Prime Minister was held, the announcement of the official results is expected in the near future.

According to media reports, 54 MPs from the Conservative Party had previously filed a letter of no confidence in Johnson. This was enough for a vote. In order for the British prime minister to resign, votes of no confidence from 180 party members are needed.

The prime minister himself said that his departure from office would be an irresponsible decision, given the rise in prices in the country and the situation in Ukraine.

Johnson has come under fire and is in danger of losing his post over a scandal surrounding parties at the government residence on Downing Street during a nationwide coronavirus lockdown. The situation worsened when it was revealed that two more parties took place on April 16, 2021 – on the eve of the funeral of Prince Philip, when restrictions were still in place in the United Kingdom and national mourning was declared in the country. Johnson later apologized and said he paid the fine issued by the Metropolitan Police.
