Majority of Norwegians opposed EU membership

Most Norwegians do not want to see their country in the European Union, despite the highest percentage of support for the entry of the kingdom into the union in 12 years, follows from the results of a survey by the local think tank Sentio.

According to the results of the study, since November 2021, the number of supporters of Norway’s accession to the EU has increased from 34.1 percent to 35.3 percent.

The share of those who find it difficult to answer increased from 11.8 percent in November to 16 percent. At the same time, the number of those who oppose the integration of the country into the European Union decreased from 54.2 percent to 48.8 percent.

The survey was made from 24 to 30 May 2022 among 1,001 Norwegian adults. Its authors believe that the sample is representative, but the percentage error is not reported.

Norway is not a member of the European Union, but has been part of the European Economic Area since 1994.
