Netanyahu said that the IDF retains freedom of action in southern Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has full operations in southern Lebanon to prevent threats and will remain in the security zone for as long as necessary, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

Earlier, the Reuters news agency, citing an American official, reported that Israel and the Hezbollah movement had reached a cease-fire agreement, which was supposed to take effect on June 19. At the same time, the exchange of blows continued on June 20. On June 21, the Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Eyal Zamir, described the truce with the Lebanese Hezbollah movement as fragile and called on the military to be ready for the resumption of hostilities.

“My instruction and that of the IDF Minister of Defense remains clear and unchanged: our fighters in southern Lebanon have complete freedom of action to prevent any direct or emerging threat to themselves or the residents of the north. The Israel Defense Forces has no restrictions in this regard,” Netanyahu said in a video message.

The Israeli Prime Minister stressed that the military will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary to protect the residents of the north and all citizens of the country.
