Paraguay has started presidential elections.

Polling stations for voting in the presidential elections have opened in Paraguay.

The list of candidates is long, but the main battle is expected to be between the two. These are Santiago Peña, a representative, like the incumbent president, of the right-wing Colorado party, which rules the country with a short break for more than 70 years, and Efrain Alegre, not for the first time fighting for the main post in the country, from the Liberal Radical Authentic Party (PLRA ). In fact, he represents an association of 14 opposition parties.

On Sunday, the Paraguayans, in addition to the president, will also elect a vice president, members of parliament, governors.

Polling stations will work until 4 p.m. local time. The results will be known on the same day. For the first time, electronic ballot boxes will be used in elections.

In Paraguay, presidential elections are held in one round. So already on Sunday, citizens will elect the head of state, who will take office on August 15 and will lead the country for five years.
