Poland wants to increase the size of the army by 2.5 times because of Russia

The Polish authorities decided to expand the size of the army by more than 2.5 times, from 150,000 to 400,000 soldiers. This was announced by the head of the country’s ruling party “Law and Justice” Yaroslav Kaczynski.

The country also wants to acquire modernized weapons to counter the “Russian threat“.

“In order to catch up, we need to constantly improve our defense industry,” Kaczynski said.

He clarified that among the armaments, Warsaw is considering the purchase of HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, which are expected to be purchased in the amount of 500 pieces, F-35 fighters (32 pieces), Abrams tanks of the latest version M1A2 SEPv3 (250 pieces), Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

“This military hardware can effectively deter Russia,” Kaczynski concluded.

In mid-June, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the alliance had increased its presence, doubling the combat groupings on the eastern flank from four to eight.
