The United States must end all military ties with Taiwan and attempts to use the island to contain China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Friday, commenting on the inclusion of a bill to provide Taiwan with $10 billion in military aid as part of the draft US defense budget.
“The United States must abide by the One China principle and the provisions of the three joint Sino-US communiqués, remove China-related negative content from the bill, stop playing the Taiwan card and use Taiwan to contain China, stop military ties with Taiwan so as not to harm China-US relations. even more,” the diplomat said.
Mao Ning stressed that China will take all necessary measures to resolutely protect sovereignty and security interests.
Earlier, US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Robert Menendez welcomed the inclusion of his bill to provide Taiwan with $10 billion in military aid as part of the draft US defense budget. It was noted that the allocated assistance, if necessary, would allow “to suppress aggression” from China.
Earlier, the relevant Houses of Representatives and the US Senate agreed on the country’s defense budget for fiscal year 2023, which will amount to $847.3 billion.
