The Finnish Foreign Ministry said that a “state entity” is behind the emergency with Nord Stream.

Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that a “state actor” could be behind the emergency with the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.

“When an operation of this magnitude is carried out, some state actor must be involved in it. That’s what I can say about it now… You might think that such an emergency with a pipeline could affect the development of sanctions if any traces of the culprit are found,” Haavisto explained.

According to him, Finland is currently investigating all ship movements in the Baltic Sea in the area of gas pipeline infrastructure. The head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry also expressed concern about what had happened.

“The concern is great. I understand the point of view of Sweden and Denmark that this is an issue for the entire EU when sabotage is possible on a key energy network,” the minister said.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said that the German Navy was taking part in the investigation of the incident on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.
