The head of Uniper said he expected the worst in the situation with gas

If hostilities in Ukraine stop soon, gas prices will not fall, says Klaus-Dieter Maubach

The head of the German energy company Uniper, Klaus-Dieter Maubach, said that he assumes the worst in the situation with the supply of Russian gas and rising prices for it.

“What we see in the wholesale market is that prices have risen 20 times in two years. Therefore, I think we need to have an open discussion so that everyone takes responsibility for correcting [the situation],” he said.

At the same time, Maubach does not believe that if hostilities in Ukraine cease in the near future, gas prices will fall. Consumers, on the one hand, will bear this burden in the coming years, and on the other hand, high prices will contribute to the transition to carbon neutrality, he is sure.

The head of Uniper called on the EU to develop a quick and unified response to rising energy prices.
