The new German Defense Minister took the oath in the Bundestag.

The new head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius, took the oath in the Bundestag, thereby taking office.

Earlier, Pistorius received a certificate of appointment from the President of the country.

“I swear that I will use my strength for the good of the German people, increasing benefits and averting harm from it, and also (swear) to protect the Basic Law and (other) laws,” Pistorius read out in the Bundestag. The oath ceremony was broadcast on the website of the military department.

On Monday, former German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht announced that she had filed a petition to be removed from her post, she explained her decision by the “months-long” close attention of the German media to her person, which prevented her from fulfilling her duties.
