The number of victims of earthquakes in Turkey exceeded 45 thousand.

The number of victims of earthquakes that occurred on February 6 in southeastern Turkey exceeded 45,000, according to the Office of Emergency Situations (AFAD).

“According to the latest data, 45,089 people died as a result of earthquakes, more than 1.9 million citizens were evacuated from the disaster zone,” the department said.


Those left homeless are housed in more than 358,000 tents and container houses.


Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 with an interval of nine hours in the province of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey. The tremors, followed by hundreds of aftershocks, were felt in 11 provinces of the country and neighboring states, including Syria. Authorities said it was the unprecedented “catastrophe of the century.”
