The President of Finland warned Europe about the threat

The unity of Europe could be threatened by the looming energy crisis, said Finnish President Sauli Niiniste.

Among other things, he expressed concern about the further escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. According to Niiniste, this could lead to serious difficulties in the energy sector both for his country and for other EU states. The population will have to get used to the fact that the economy will no longer improve year after year.

“We in Finland have long been accustomed to living with the idea that next year everything will be better. Such a turning point, when it will not be the same as before, and the challenges only grow, is very difficult. This can also affect the unity of Europe,” said Niiniste .

He also expressed the opinion that one of the most important issues was the acquisition of self-sufficiency by European countries: this applies to both the security and food sectors.
