The United States has completed an operation to export enriched uranium from Venezuela

The U.S. Department of Energy, together with experts from the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research, has completed the extraction of 13.5 kg of uranium from the RV-1 reactor in Venezuela. This is stated in the press release of the department.

According to him, the extracted uranium was transported by a special vessel to the Savannah River nuclear burial ground in the United States, where this uranium will be recycled for reuse.

“The safe export of all enriched uranium from Venezuela sends another signal to the world about rebuilding and renewing the country,”  Brandon Williams, administrator of the National Nuclear Safety Administration of the Ministry of Energy said.

The operation was completed in six weeks, according to a press release. It was attended by State Department officials in Washington and Caracas, as well as experts from the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Venezuela and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Nuclear research was conducted at the RV-1 reactor for decades until 1991, the press release explains.
