The United States should respect the wishes of the peoples of African states regarding the development of international cooperation instead of slandering and attacking other countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Earlier, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, said that the spread of influence of Russia and China in Africa could destabilize the situation, so the United States should pay attention to this.

“Supporting the development of Africa is a shared responsibility of the international community. We are always happy to see the diversity of African partners, and we also welcome the international community, including the United States, to pay more attention and increase investment in Africa, to carry out truly equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with Africa,” the diplomat said.

At the same time, he expressed the hope that the United States would be open-minded about the cooperation of African states with all countries.
