The White House administration tried to explain why they did not issue a visa to Russian journalists

White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby tried to justify himself after not issuing visas for a visit to the UN headquarters in New York.

“The Russian state media are propaganda organs. We consider it important to defend the freedom of the press, the independence of the press, which should do its job freely,” he said in an interview.

When asked whether the United States fears the consequences for The Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested in Russia on charges of espionage after not issuing visas to Lavrov’s journalistic pool, Kirby said that the American “is not a spy, but a reporter.”

“We will continue to broadcast this message,” a White House spokesman said.
