Trump has secured the support of a majority of Republicans, the poll showed.

Former US President Donald Trump will be supported by a majority of Republican voters in the primaries, while his rival Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be supported by 26%, according to CNN, citing the results of a poll conducted by SSRS.

DeSantis on Wednesday filed documents to participate in the US elections, which will be held next November. According to many, it is the 44-year-old DeSantis who is the ex-president’s main rival among the Republicans.

Trump is the first choice of 53% of Republican and GOP voters in the primaries, about double DeSantis’ 26%.

The channel notes that Trump’s significant advantage shows significant changes in comparison with the results of a similar March poll of the channel, which showed approximately the same level of support for the two candidates.

Trump is reportedly ahead of DeSantis by the same margin among both older voters and youth, which is also different from the results of the March poll, which found Trump’s support among older voters to be lower.

Nearly three-quarters – 73% of registered Republican voters and party supporters – say they are at least quite satisfied with the party’s current slate of candidates, and only 7% say they are not at all happy with the current nominations.

The poll was conducted from May 17 to May 20 among a random sample of 1,227 Americans. The error of the study is 5.8 percentage points.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 2024. Trump in November 2022 announced his entry into the struggle for the presidency. The current head of state, Joe Biden, also officially announced in April that he was running for a second term in order to “finish what he started,” and launched an election campaign website. If he succeeds, he will be 82 at the start of his second presidential term.
