British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who is running for prime minister, plans to defeat her rival, former finance minister Rishi Sunak, with anti-Russian rhetoric.

Truss considers foreign policy and security issues to be his forte. In particular, she intends to accuse Sunak of being too soft on the actions of Russia and China. On the issue of imposing banking sanctions against Russia, the Treasury under Sunak did not want to move as quickly as Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Truss wanted.

“Liz has experience, authority and determination when it comes to Ukraine and China, which puts her in a number of party hawks, while Rishi is more on the side of the doves,” shared one of the associates of the British Foreign Minister.

He also added that Truss’ position is that “this is a more dangerous time than at any time since the end of the Cold War” and it is she who can return the UK to a leading role on the world stage.

According to Truss, the strength of her position is the promises regarding the strengthening of national security. Another reason Truss has more than 10 years of experience in government in various positions, while Sunak headed only one department for two and a half years.
