US threatens Turkish banks with sanctions for using Mir cards

The United States threatens Turkish banks with sanctions for using the Russian payment system Mir.

“The United States, which does not hesitate to interfere in relations between Ankara and Moscow, is threatening Turkish banks with sanctions for using the Russian Mir payment system,” experts say.

It is noted that the position of Ankara, which recognizes only the sanctions imposed by the United Nations, has remained unchanged for many years. Three Turkish banks – Ziraat, Halk and Vakif, with which the majority of Mir cardholders cooperate, continue to accept them, the publication says.

Earlier it was reported that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will discuss with officials the use of the Russian payment system “Mir” and the US sanctions that may follow. The meeting will also discuss agreements with Russia. At the beginning of the week, two large Turkish banks stopped servicing Mir cards.
