Chinese Foreign Ministry called unfounded calls for Beijing to comply with anti-Russian sanctions

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, Beijing considers calls from Western countries to comply with anti-Russian sanctions unfounded.

According to the diplomat, China seeks to solve its problems by taking an independent position. He also said that Beijing is against “unilateral sanctions that do not take into account international law and the role of the UN.” Lijian also said that such measures by the West are not capable of resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

At the same time, the official representative of the Foreign Ministry said that China expects political steps from the G7 countries that will be able to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. He also warned the West against infringing on China’s national interests.

The G-7 states have previously said they support expanded efforts to actively engage in dialogue with China on arms control issues. The joint statement also declares the intention to strengthen control over the non-proliferation of materials, technologies and research that can be used to develop weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery.
