EU considering suspension of trade deal with Britain

The EU may consider suspending the trade agreement with the UK in the event that London takes measures to change the Brexit agreement.

The EU’s executive could propose suspending the entire trade deal if British Prime Minister Boris Johnson “realizes his threat” to pass legislation to unilaterally change parts of the Northern Ireland protocol.

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said that the government is preparing to submit a bill in parliament that would amend the protocol with the EU on Northern Ireland.
The protocol was agreed by Brussels and London to avoid re-establishing a hard border between the UK’s Northern Ireland and the independent Republic of Ireland, an EU member. The agreement involves the creation of a customs border in the Irish Sea between Northern Ireland and the UK.

The UK government wants to make significant changes to the protocol, which will more strictly delineate the entry of goods from the UK into the EU single market.
