Germany will introduce a special fee for gas consumers

Germany will introduce a special fee for gas consumers

The German government is looking for an opportunity to introduce a fee that will be paid by all gas consumers. As planned, such a solution should help suppliers faced with rapidly rising import prices.

The law is due to be passed by parliament on July 8, the agency’s sources said. The fee will make gas more expensive for everyone, not just certain families, experts say.

Earlier, the Federal Network Agency of Germany, acting as a regulator, announced the current tense situation in the country with gas supplies and allowed it to worsen in the future.

On June 23, Economics and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck said that Germany was facing a gas crisis and that residents and businesses should cut their gas consumption “now, in the summer and then in the winter.” He also announced the start of the second of three phases of the government’s emergency plan to deal with the energy crisis.
