Spain will offer to export gas to Europe via two gas pipelines through the Pyrenees and use the logistical capabilities of its gas system in order not to introduce a measure to reduce gas consumption by 15%, which was previously proposed by the European Commission.

Spain intends to offer its ideas on July 26 at a meeting of energy ministers of the European Union.

Thus, the kingdom proposes to export 6.7 terawatt-hours of gas per month (69.3 thousand cubic meters), which is three times the average for the past five years, which the EC takes as a basis in terms of reducing gas consumption.

Earlier, the European Commission obliged the countries of the European Union to submit by the end of September a plan for a voluntary reduction in gas consumption by 15% until March 31, 2023.

Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Riber, said the kingdom’s government does not support the EC’s proposal.

The same position was taken in Portugal, noting that this proposal of the European Commission does not take into account differences between countries.
Italy, Poland and Hungary expressed concern about the proposal of the European Commission.
