Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that the air operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Iraq and Syria was successful.

Earlier, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced the destruction of 89 targets during an air operation in northern Syria and Iraq. Ankara on Sunday conducted an air operation against the Syrian wing of the banned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Syria – strikes were reported on the city of Kobani, as well as in northern Iraq.

“About 70 combat and support aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles took part in the air operation. During the operation, 89 targets were successfully destroyed, consisting of shelters, bunkers, caves, tunnels, ammunition depots, the so-called headquarters and training camps of terrorists that threaten our country, nation and border security in northern Syria and Iraq… At the moment, 45 terrorist targets deep into 140 kilometers to the north of Iraq and 44 – deep into 20 kilometers in Syria have been hit with high accuracy. While the operation was going on, I met with Hulusi Pasha (Defense Minister Hulusi Akar) at 04:00 am and he told me about the latest situation. Thus, we ended the night with a successful operation,” Erdogan told reporters on the plane upon his return from Qatar.
