In Japan, an American Marine stole a car and caused an accident.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry expressed “extreme regret” that a Marine from a US base stationed in Japan stole a car and then crashed it, Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“In the city of Iwakuni, on December 3, a US Marine stole a car and caused an accident. This is extremely regrettable. The Japanese government asked the American side to strengthen discipline, as well as show a serious attitude towards the injured side,” Hayashi said.

He also noted that such incidents by the US military cause concern to the local population.

According to the bilateral agreement, the American side is not obliged to extradite to Japan military personnel who have committed crimes in Japan.
