British and German Air Forces escorted Russian planes over the Baltic Sea

The Royal Air Force says that the British and German Air Forces escorted three Russian military aircraft over the Baltic Sea last Friday.

“British and German Typhoons escorted the Coot-A (Il-20) and Flanker-B (Su-27) aircraft through the Estonian flight information area before the transfer,” the message says.

It is noted that the fighters were lifted into the air “to intercept and visually identify several unidentified aircraft flying near NATO airspace.”

The statement says that the IL-20 was in transit from the mainland of Russia to the Kaliningrad region. The plane was met by two Su-27 fighters, who escorted it south through the north-western zone of the Estonian flight information area.
