At least 10 people were killed and about 55 injured when a passenger bus crashed into a gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in northern India.

The bus was traveling from the city of Amritsar to Katra, the accident occurred 15 kilometers from Katra. Detailed reasons for the incident are not given.

“Ten people were killed and about 55 were injured. All were evacuated. The rescue operation is almost completed,” said chief police inspector Chandan Kohli.


All the victims were taken to the hospital. Paramilitaries and the State Emergency Response Service (SDRF) are participating in the rescue operation. The senior inspector clarified that, according to his data, the bus was transporting more people than was allowed by the standards, information about this will be verified.
