Colombia’s main aim after the signing a peace deal with the FARC is to rebuild a country. President Juan Manuel Santos believes that peace with the rebel group will boost economic growth, which will be very helpful for the country in the rebuilding the social fabric.
Colombia soon to be a peaceful country, which is day by day working on the boosting its economic. “War is always more costly than peace,” President Juan Manuel Santos said in an interview with the BBC.
On Monday, whole the country and Latin America is waiting for the moment of signing the historic peace deal. Mr Santos and FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) boss Timoleon Jimenez, known as Timochenko, will leave their signatures on the document.
The Colombian people was waiting for peace during long 52 years, the war conflict was tearing the country, many generations were living as beggars through the non-stop war and absence of work.
Now, the FARC is going to reload itself, as a political party and as part of the deal. The forthcoming vote on Oct. 2 will show the people’s preferences in a political life of the country. As Mr. Santos told:
“We could have grown between 2% and 3% more per year for the past 23 years. We have even lost our compassion, which is the ability to feel some kind of pain for others.”
The most bitter thing, according to President Santos, is “A country at war for 50 years is a country that has destroyed many of its values.”

- The peace agreement was sealed last month after nearly four years of talks, which were held in the Cuban capital, Havana.
