In DR Congo, two more provinces are affected by the Ebola outbreak

The authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have added Chopo and Upper Uele provinces to the list of officially affected by the Ebola outbreak,  the country’s Minister of Health, Roger Kamba said.

“Now Chopo province is also affected by this disease… We had cases in Wamba (Upper Uele), so we include this territory in the list of affected areas,” the minister said, quoted by Actualite.

According to him, two cases of the disease have been identified in each of these provinces.

The minister noted that in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu, there is still an “acute phase, the outbreak is spreading.”

As a result of the outbreak of Ebola in the region, almost 1,8 thousand cases of the disease and 625 deaths were registered.

On May 17, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda as an emergency and a danger to other countries.

WHO assesses the regional risk of the virus spreading as high.
