Police have been deployed to the center of Yerevan

Police are deployed to the center of Yerevan amid the closure of polling stations.

In particular, police buses are parked near Republic Square, where government buildings are located, and near the Opera House, as well as near the Prime Minister’s residence on Proshyan Street. There are also many police officers on duty around the perimeter of the large-scale wine festival taking place on Saryan Street, which allows them to essentially control the city center. Otherwise, the situation is calm, there are many citizens and tourists in the center.

Polling stations for the Armenian parliamentary elections closed at 8 p.m. local time.

Parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on June 7. 18 parties and blocs participated in them. According to Western sociologists, less than 37% of voters are ready to support the Civil Contract party of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. At the same time, opposition parties can gain about 49% in total: “Strong Armenia” – 26%, “Armenia” bloc – 12%, “Prosperous Armenia” – 6%, “Wings of Unity” – 5%. The remaining parties, according to forecasts, will not overcome the four percent barrier.

Meanwhile, during the election campaign, the republic’s authorities obstructed their competitors, and criminal cases were opened against a number of opposition politicians.
