South Korea plans to train 500,000 drone warriors

South Korea plans to train 500,000 “drone warriors” so that all military personnel can use drones as a “second personal weapon,” Defense Minister Ahn Gyu Baek said at a special briefing.

According to the minister, in the future, drones should not become special equipment used by individual units and personnel, but a “universal means of combat” used by all military personnel.

“The Ministry of Defense will actively promote a policy of training 500,000 drone soldiers so that all military personnel can gain the ability to use drones as a second personal weapon,” Ahn Gyu Baek said.

According to him, the recent conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East have shown that drones have become a pivotal element on the battlefield. If in the past, as the minister noted, a few expensive unmanned systems fought, now the massive use of inexpensive drones is “fundamentally changing” the nature of the war.

Ahn Gyu Baek said that the DPRK continues to develop various types of weapons, and therefore the danger is growing not only for South Korean military facilities, but also for important government and civilian facilities.

For the production of drones, it is planned to expand the use of domestic, rather than Chinese, components and components for drones, with the aim of switching to 100 percent use of Korean-made products in the future.
