US President Donald Trump said that the “senseless” resolution passed by the Senate to limit his military powers in the conflict against Iran would complicate negotiations with Tehran.
⠀
The US Senate earlier approved a resolution demanding that Trump stop the military actions of the United States against Iran, which began without congressional approval. The White House said the resolution has no force of law and does not require the president’s signature.
⠀
“Iran asked my people, ‘What does all this mean?’ These senators have just made my job more difficult,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
⠀
Trump believed that Iran was “on the hook,” and the Senate decided to hold an “untimely and pointless meeting.”
⠀
According to him, the lawmakers demonstrated their disapproval of their leader’s actions with this step, and thus helped and comforted the Iranian authorities.
⠀
At the end of last week, the first round of negotiations between America and Iran aimed at preparing for a future peace agreement took place in Switzerland, with the assistance of Qatar and Pakistan.
⠀
On the night of June 18, Iran and the United States remotely signed a memorandum that presupposes the end of the military conflict that began on February 28. The memorandum also sets a timeline for when the United States will lift the naval blockade and Iran will restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
⠀
In addition, Iran undertakes not to obtain nuclear weapons, and the issue of the Iranian nuclear program should be settled by a separate agreement.
⠀
The parties will hold negotiations on this issue within 60 days. For Tehran, the result should be the lifting of anti-Iranian sanctions.
