Iran and Oman will determine the rules governing the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
⠀
The foreign ministers of the six Arabian monarchies, after meeting in Bahrain on June 25, rejected any attempts to impose fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
⠀
“The Strait of Hormuz is located in the territorial waters of two countries, Iran and Oman, and the fifth paragraph of the memorandum of understanding on ending the war (with the United States) will become the basis for actions regarding the management of navigation in the strait,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry responded to the statement of the Arabian monarchies.
⠀
According to the fifth paragraph of the signed memorandum, Iran and Oman will hold talks on the future management of the Strait of Hormuz and the provision of related maritime services, and other Gulf countries will be included in the dialogue.
⠀
The Iranian Foreign Ministry previously explained that the payment for shipping in Hormuz is due to the provision of services and the maintenance of the environmental situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. At the same time, Iran has pledged not to carry out any fees from ships passing through Hormuz within 60 days from the moment of signing the memorandum with the United States.
⠀
On the night of June 18, Iran and the United States remotely signed a memorandum that presupposes the end of the military conflict that began on February 28.
⠀
The memorandum also sets a timeline for when the United States will lift the naval blockade and Iran will restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
