Swedish King Carl XVI Gustaf made official comments on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

“She has always been a good friend of my family and a link in our common family history,” the king said in a statement on the website of the royal house.

The Swedish royal family sadly received the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II late in the evening of September 8. The Swedish Royal Family is related to the British Royal Family through Queen Victoria, who was the great-grandmother of King Carl XVI Gustaf.

“The Queen has served her countries and the Commonwealth with outstanding devotion and a sense of duty. She was constantly present not only in British society, but also abroad.”- Carl XVI Gustaf said in a statement.
