Qatar’s ruling emir met Angela Merkel on Friday, the Gulf country is ready to sit at the negotiating table. Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani expressed his desire to end the dispute with Arab neighbours.
Angela Merkel and Emmanuel macron are ready to help to Qatar and its Arab neighbours to resolve the Gulf crisis. The German Chancellor said to the press on Friday that she hoped the dialogue will be fruitful and constructive.
For Qatar’s ruling emir, it is the first trip abroad since a diplomatic crisis erupted in June, sheikh paid a visit to Turkey prior to land in Berlin and Paris this week. The leaders of UAE and Saudi Arabia have already met with the US President who is also ready to help the Gulf dispute as soon as possible.
Despite all these efforts of the international diplomacy, Mrs Merkel voiced “great concern” that no end to the conflict is in sight.
“It’s cause for great concern that after 100 days a solution to this conflict is still not in sight,”
she said.
The Gulf crisis and the international community’s reaction
Since June Qatar is isolated from its neighbours – Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates cut ties with it over its close relations with Iran and its alleged support for extremists. In its turn, Qatar denies it and says that the crisis is politically motivated.
Berlin has been supporting diplomatic efforts to try and defuse the crisis, on Friday, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said,
“Qatar is prepared to take a seat at the table to solve this problem,”
adding that fighting terrorism “is a big priority for us and we have to concentrate on the roots of terrorism”.
Emmanuel Macron also had a conversation with Emir, the President left the Elysée Palace without speaking to the press. According to the statement, the French leader his concern over the tensions that threaten regional stability. The Gulf dispute undermines the political resolution of crises and the collective fight against terrorism.
