UK dentists condemn call for child migrants’ teeth to be tested

The UK MPs have questioned the issue of “Jungle” kids who are arriving the territory of Kingdom. David Davies, a Tory MP, called for these migrant kids from Calais to have their teeth tested. According to Mr Davies, such a test could be helpful for verifying their ages. The doctors of the World UK called the idea “unethical and unnecessary” saying “healthcare workers are not border guards”.

United Kingdom welcomes a number of unaccompanied children who arrived from the “Jungle” camp, these young people are in the UK join relatives here. But many MPs suggest they could be adults trying to get in. That’s why David Davies, MP for Monmouth, said mandatory teeth checks would reassure people the UK was not being exploited.

The answer of the British Dental Association (BDA) followed immediately, the doctors said such checks would be unethical. Moreover, the dentists disputed claims that dental radiographs can accurately determine whether someone is under the age of 18 or not.

The questions about the ages of child migrant arose after publication the several photos of some guests from Calais. The ‘children’ don’t look like under 18, say many Britons. Mr Davies tweeted that the youngsters “don’t look like children to me”, adding:

“I hope British hospitality is not being abused.”

He told BBC Radio Wales that one of the migrants arriving had “lines around his eyes and looks older than I am. If they are jumping on lorries, they are not going to be adverse to lying about their ages. We should do the tests.”

 

A BDA spokesman said it was “vigorously opposed” to the use of dental X-rays to try to determine the age of asylum seekers.
