Almost 50 cases of gastroenteritis were recorded on the Ambition liner

A total of 49 cases of gastroenteritis were recorded on the cruise ship Ambition, according to the cruise company Ambassador Cruise Line.

“As of 11:00 a.m. UK time on May 13, 48 active cases among guests and one case among a crew member were registered on board the Ambition vessel,” the company  informed.

The Ambassador Cruise Line cruise ship set sail from the Shetland Islands in Scotland on May 6 and stopped in Belfast, Liverpool and Brest, France, before arriving in Bordeaux.

The first tests have not yet revealed norovirus, but doctors in Bordeaux are conducting additional research. At the same time, they ruled out a link between this case and hantavirus, which recently broke out on the Dutch cruise ship MV Hondius.

Gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, resulting in vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and fever. Most often, the disease is caused by infections such as rotavirus and norovirus.
