Turkish citizens who returned from the MV Hondius liner were not diagnosed with hantavirus

Tests of Turkish citizens who returned to their homeland from the ship on which the hantavirus was detected turned out to be negative, the Ministry of Health of the republic reported.

Earlier, an outbreak of hantavirus was recorded on the Dutch cruise ship MV Hondius, en route from Argentina to Cape Verde. According to the World Health Organization, seven cases of infection have been confirmed, and three people have died.

“The test results of three Turkish citizens who were on the ship where the hantavirus was detected turned out to be negative,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry clarified that Turkish citizens will be quarantined for the recommended period. Their condition, as noted, is constantly being assessed, and their health is carefully monitored.

Hantaviruses are transmitted to humans through contact with rodents and can cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, as well as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.
