China donates COVID-19 jabs to Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has received the first batch of China-donated COVID-19 jabs produced by Sinopharm.

BiH’s Ministry of Civil Affairs confirmed on Thursday receiving the Chinese-made vaccines against the novel infection. Thanking the Chinese partners, minister Ankica Gudeljevic stressed that old Chinese wisdom says that a friend in times of trouble is a true friend.

“China has shown its true friendship from the very start of the pandemic,” she said upon receiving the donation from Beijing. For the EU country, such medical aid is extremely valuable, the minister added.

The Chinese Ambassador to BiH Ji Ping also voiced hope that China’s support will help BiH with a population of 3.5 million to win the fight with the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the mass vaccination is underway in China, the country is ready to make a global contribution, Ji added.

As of Friday, less than 90,000 BiH citizens have received one dose of COVID-19 shot, which include thousands who travelled to neighbouring Serbia to get vaccinated, due to a lack of vaccines in the BiH.

So far, BiH has recorded 197,866 COVID-19 cases and 8,512 deaths. Commenting on the Chinese donation, minister Gudeljevic noted that China has once again demonstrated its commitment to help others.
