Georgia named the reason for the blackout

A large-scale power outage in Georgia was caused by the shutdown of the 500-kilovolt Imereti power transmission line, said Levan Mebonia, director of the largest hydroelectric power plant in the Caucasus, InguriGES.

On Saturday morning, Georgia experienced its second blackout in the last two days. Electricity supply has already been restored to the whole country. The first blackout occurred on Friday night.

“The 500-kilovolt Imereti line has been disconnected…, it is through this line that the main load of the country’s energy system passes. After its shutdown, the operating mode was disrupted, and the power system completely collapsed. We are currently in the process of eliminating the accident,” the director of InguriGES said in an interview with TV Pirveli.

At the same time, Mebonia stated that he could not yet name the reason why the Imereti power transmission line was damaged.
